Early diagnosis of Liver Cancer - 2
Liver cancer is the cancer that develops in liver cells. It is the fastest rising cause of cancer in the UK with 16 people a day in the UK diagnosed with new liver cancer. Often people with liver cancer do not develop symptoms in the early stages as liver is able to maintain its functions even when a large part is diseased so making early diagnosis of liver cancer a real challenge.
New research from Dr Yaqza Hussain and his colleagues at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire suggest that a blood test – mSEPT9 – maybe an accurate way of detecting as well as ruling out liver cancer. This study requires a large number of liver cancer patients and the Medical and Life Sciences Research Fund has given support to measure this mSEPT9 test in a larger study with the aim to enable liver cancer to be detected earlier
